Lithium Battery Sparked House Fire in Tennessee

The cause of the blaze that destroyed this home in Tennessee, officials say, was a malfunctioning flashlight and a lithium-ion battery. The batteries are becoming more common in the electronics we use every day. Fire departments like to warn folks this time of year about the dangers of fireplaces, power cords and space heaters, but they say lithium batteries are causing more fires every year and they have their own safety precautions to follow.
